Final Project

Please create or renovate a unit that encompasses all you have learned in this class. Include all 8 intelligences into your exercises. (if you need extra material on MI let me know) This unit should be one you will use next year. I would like you to put a summary of your unit on this post so others could contact you if they wanted a copy. Then mail me the entire unit by snail mail to Barney Slowey 936 Linden Ave Rice Lake Wi 54868...If you ever need to call me I can be reached at 715 236 2088. I would like to be able to share your units with other teachers when I do staff development so if you DO NOT want me to share please let me know.

My final project involves a unit in sixth grade math. Students will learn to read and interpret data that is represented in bar graphs, pictographs, circle graphs, and also ordered pairs. Each lesson is designed to meet differential learning styles as well as multiple intelligences. The eight activities offered in the graphing unit provide students opportunities in hands-on lessons, small group work, discussion, art and personal reflection. For students who find it difficult to engage in whole group discussions, the journal allows them an effective way to reflect on their learning and to demonstrate their level of understanding. Students are encouraged to be creative and to reflect upon themselves.

My final project involves a look at the characteristics, neurological deficits and treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for children, and how that knowledge can help schools support students with obsessions, compulsions and repetitive behaviors of autism. It will be a unit designed to teach school staff about obsessions, compulsions, and repetitive behaviors, and strategies to support these students based on current brain-based research and best practices.

Katie and I created a unit together on the Frog's Life Cycle. At first we were going to to Life Cycles in general - but quickly realized we need to narrow that down. Our unit included all 8 of the MI. It was fun taking an older unit and update dating it by taking advantage of the current brain research to make it valuable and motivating for all our students and develop all their intelligences. It was neat to use the Eight Kinds of Smart on pages 184-186 when creating all the different activities with in our unit.
